Anniversary Weekend
Our 28th Wedding Anniversary was October 24th. As usual, we waited too long to make plans, so most places we were considering were already full for the weekend. We wanted to stop and check on mom, so decided Illinois was the direction to go. Ed took off Thursday and we headed to a Bed & Breakfast in Galena, Illinois which had an opening for Thursday night only. We have come to the conclusion that we don't like Victorian Bed and Breakfast establishments, so we search for cabins or suites.
The Goldmoor Inn had two cabins. This was our neighbors cabin. (It was raining, so I stood on our porch to take the picture. I don't think they would have wanted me to stand on their porch to take a picture of our cabin!)
The "cabin" decor was a little over the top, but the owner is an interior designer, so who am I to say what works?
It was cold and rainy the whole time we were there, so the fireplace was so nice to have. Great to relax with our hot chocolate and cookies.
This beautiful tree was right outside our door. We drove on a winding road along the Mississippi River to get here. It was pretty with the fall colors, but the rain muted it all. Ed wants to drive this road once he gets his car done.
A view of an inlet of the Mississippi River from our spot in the dining room.
As we traveled back to mom and dad's house we went through lots of rolling hills with cozy looking farms and an array of fall foliage. We did finally have some sun on Sunday on our way home. We stopped at Starved Rock State Park to walk around a little and enjoy the sunshine.
